Dear Committee Member,

I am writing to express my intent to run for the 136th Assembly District. I am running to ensure everyone has access to affordable housing, quality healthcare and childcare, and equal educational opportunities. My 20-year career in public service has prepared me to represent us in the State Assembly, and I hope to earn your support in seeking the Democratic nomination.

A lifelong resident of Rochester, I grew up in the Southeast part of the city and graduated from East High School and SUNY Stony Brook. My husband, John, and our children, Jack (14), Sean (12) and Grace (9) live in the Maplewood neighborhood.

I have had the pleasure of working for the United States Senate for the past two decades. Senator Hillary Clinton hired me in 2001 to run the Rochester office. Her successor, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand asked me to continue, citing my strong knowledge of the region and state. I now serve as the Deputy State Director for Kirsten’s office. I started my career as a teacher’s assistant at Hillside Children’s Center before joining the Monroe County Youth Bureau to work on the Youth Participation Project, which encouraged high school students to become more civically engaged.

Our top priorities working in the Senate have been advocating for women, children and families, advancing economic development and job training for underserved communities, and protecting the environment. Under the current administration, our state has become a leader in challenging the destructive federal policies that undermine our Democratic values. As an assemblywoman, I will hit the ground running and continue the fight on behalf of the greater Rochester region.

I am active in our community, volunteering with organizations including the United Way and Summit Federal Credit Union as well as the Maplewood YMCA. I am also an involved member of the Northwest Democratic Committee.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Sincerely,

Sarah Clark
