I’m a proud product of the SUNY system (and a SUNY parent) and recognize that for many families across the region that this option is the most affordable and attractive option to send children to college. Yet, over the past 25 years we’ve seen college costs skyrocket at public and private institutions alike.
As Chair of the Subcommittee on the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), I worked to increase income eligibility for TAP awards, and raise the minimum amount awarded to students. As students face new challenges with affordability of higher education, we have more to do, including the restoration of TAP for graduate students. In addition, I’ve introduced legislation to provide consumer protections, and ensure that all colleges and universities in New York are upfront about their tuition policies, to ensure that no student is left on the hook due to vague or deceptive guidance from their school.
